The Office of External Relations and Engagement within the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business is responsible for enhancing the college's external presence and impact.


Alongside SC Johnson College students' impressive career placements, our college bridges to the world through several channels: curricular and co-curricular corporate and community engaged experiential learning, external engagement of our centers, institutes, initiatives and themes, involvement in external education programming (eCornell, executive education, and professional development training), and active external collaborations and association memberships worldwide. Corporate development and engagement are the focal core and foundational underpinning of these bridging channels.


Through outreach and strategy meetings with key partners, coordination of special events, resource development, and collaborations from across Cornell to around the world, the Office of External Relations team creates value-added opportunities that benefit the college's students, faculty, alumni, external collaborators, and society at large.


The Senior Director for External Relations opportunity:


*This is a regular, part time, 20 hours per week position that is part of a job share with another part time employee in External Relations.


Reporting to the Executive Director Corporate Relations, the Senior Director of External Relations has responsibility for conceiving, planning, and implementing JCB's external relations and development strategies designed to increase corporate engagement; develop partnerships with global universities and maximize support and engagement from various external sources such as corporations and foundations. The Senior Director of External Relations conceives, plans, and implements a program of continuous cultivation that includes building connections and contacts, developing proposals, coordinating visits, facilitating the placement of guest speakers to enrich the curriculum, devising, and managing outreach and engagement events, solicits projects for classrooms, and stewarding financial support. The Senior Director of External Relations cultivates and solicits partners, researches existing and prospective partners, and contacts and develops engagement plans. The Senior Director of External Relations collaborates with internal stakeholders (JCB and school dean's offices, Centers & Institutes, AA&D, Career Management, Executive Education, faculty, and student organizations) to ensure that engagement and communication with external relations partners is properly coordinated.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Three to five years of related career experience in alumni affairs, development, public affairs, marketing, public relations, sales, or corporate relationship management.
  • Proven skills in narrative and persuasive writing, editing copy and documents, and proofreading.
  • Ability to represent the University or School to external audiences and to communicate timely, responsively, and tactfully.
  • Requires a strong understanding of the school, faulty expertise, and an understanding of corporate and foundation philanthropy.
  • Must be a strong collaborator to work effectively between center and institutes' staff, faculty, senior-level industry executives, senior school administration and other external parties.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree, with five to seven years of related experience.
  • Experience with AAD Reporting, MSTeams, CVENT, LinkedIn, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Salesforce and Zoom.
